Training Core (TC)

Goal:
The primary goal for the Training Core (hereafter the TC) is to increase the number of African Americans and Latinos who pursue careers in the health sciences and become successful members of the academic research community. We believe increasing the number of minority health professionals and culturally competent researchers can make a meaningful contribution toward elimination of racial and ethnic health disparities. Therefore, our objectives are:

Objective 1: Provide training in community based, participatory action research to established and new investigators, the Community Research Advisory Board (CRAB), trainees and community members.

Objective 2: Provide a comprehensive training program to enhance the ability of minority undergraduates, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty to successfully pursue funding for research in health disparities and minority health

Objective 3: Create a meaningful mentoring system that fosters development of new researchers in minority health and health disparities

Objective 4: Provide training seminars in topic areas particularly pertinent to minority health and health disparities including preparation of grant proposals, cultural competence, public health ethics, social determinants of health, community involvement in research and others.
